Flint Shopping

Even skinflints can go wild amid Flint’s bodacious bonanza of shopping options, from malls and discount outlets to eclectic shops and flea markets. Flint is midway between Michigan’s two largest outlet centers: Prime Outlets in Birch Run, with 180 shops, and Auburn Hills’ Great Lakes Crossing, with Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World and GameWorks.

Genesee County history lives on at Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Station, a restored working community with Michigan’s oldest operating gristmill, cider mill, general store, old-time barber shop, blacksmith shop, plus a 1912 Parker Carousel with prancing horses, Ferris wheel, and the state’s only authentic narrow-gauge rail line. At the year-around Flint Farmer's Market, a half-mile or so northeast of downtown, nearly three dozen area artists showcase works amid fresh vegetables, fruit, flowers, meat, fish, and baked goods on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Genesee Valley Center on Linden Road has 140 stores including JCPenney, Sears, Marshall Fields, and Mervyn's. Courtland Center, with 100 stores, features Mervyn’s, JCPenney and the Old Country Buffet. Dort Mall features Perani’s Hockey World, Big Lots and Bartain Hunterz. Near Flint are Flushing’s R&J Needful Things Antique Center, Fenton’s Yesterday’s Treasures, Lapeer’s Past Tense Country Store and Cider Mill, and Howell’s Livingston Antique Outlet. Also nearby are Waterford’s Dixieland Antique Flea Market, Williamston’s Rusty Crow Antiques and the Williamston Flea Market, Sterling Heights’ Freedom Hill Outdoor Market, Munith’s Hyden’s Bargain Galore, Warren’s Warren Community Trade Center, and Belleville’s Sumpter Flea Market. Gibraltar Trade Centers are in both Taylor and Mount Clemens. Fenten’s Heavenly Scent Herb Farm features seven theme gardens, greenhouses, and shops. In Frankenmuth, Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland bills itself as the “world’s largest year-round Christmas store,” and Saginaw’s Adomaitis Antiques & Theatrics stocks enticements from fine china to fake blood.
